Once you start playing Helldivers 2, choosing the best loadout is crucial in order to succeed in your missions. At the beginning of the game, your options are limited, and your loadout will be the same every time. However, as you start leveling up and unlock new weapons and stratagems, your options become limitless, making the choice of the right loadout potentially confusing. In this guide, we will teach you which loadouts are best for the different playstyles and missions in Helldivers 2.

Best Early Game Loadout Helldivers 2

Since you cannot buy any new weapons at the beginning, stick with the ones that are default. Once you start gathering a bunch of Medals, you will unlock new ones.

For the armors, Extra Padding gives you extra protection against grenades and mines. While it won't make you invulnerable to their damage, it can save your life. 'Democracy Protects' prevents you from bleeding out and provides a 50% chance of not dying when you take lethal damage.

As for the Stratagems, I personally prefer the Machine Gun over the Stalwart, but be warned: you will die many times if you start reloading in the middle of a swarm attack. Use the Eagle Cluster Bomb and the Orbital Precision Strike to wipe out nests or for tight situations, but be careful not to fall victim to your own Eagle Strike since the area of effect is massive. The Supply Pack is great early on since you'll be using a lot of bullets, and the Sentry will help you defend areas once the enemies start attacking from all sides.

Best Loadout Against Terminids in Helldivers 2

For the weapons, the SG-255 Breaker is by far the best weapon we have found. With its 330 damage, it can quickly take down almost every enemy type in the game. Its small spread of bullets means it's the first shotgun I've used that can blast enemies even at medium to high ranges effectively. The P-19 Redeemer is a great secondary weapon that can blast enemies in seconds. Its advantage is that you can run and shoot at the same time without slowing down. The G-16 Impact is the best grenade in the game, offering 400 damage and a fuse time of 0 seconds.

Choose armor with an Engineering Kit passive if you are on a mission where you have to close many bug holes.

Regarding Stratagems, choose the ones you have unlocked depending on your level. The Railgun is by far the best weapon for quickly stripping armor and dealing an insane amount of damage. However, if you don't have it unlocked, opt for the Autocannon or the Recoilless Rifle. For the Rifle, you will need someone to reload for you. The Grenade Launcher is great for missions that require you to close their nests. The Orbital Precision Strike and Eagle Napalm Airstrike are excellent for quickly clearing swarms of enemies. Use the Orbital Laser or the Eagle 500 Kg Bomb if you are facing Bile Titans.

Best Loadout Against Automatons in Helldivers 2

We recommend the same weapon loadout against every enemy. The SG-225 Breaker can quickly eliminate light to medium enemies from the Automaton faction. Use the Redeemer if you run out of bullets or are being chased while running. The G-16 Impact is the best grenade due to its instant explosion time. While I prefer to use Light armor in every scenario, using Heavy armor is advisable since you'll be taking a lot of damage. The Extra Padding and Fortified passives will protect you against grenades, land mines, and explosion damage.

For Stratagems, use the Expendable Anti-Tank if you haven't unlocked the Spear yet. Using one of these weapons is crucial when you start facing the Hulks or Automaton Tanks. The Recoilless Rifle and the Autocannon are effective against heavily armored units, as your regular weapons will bounce off their armor, causing no damage. Against these enemies, the Mortar and Rocket Sentry will be most useful with their rocket ammunition.

While Helldivers 2 emphasizes repositioning and choosing the best strategy to engage, there are many missions against the Automatons where you will need to remain stationary. Here, the Shield Generator Pack and Relay will be the most useful Stratagems, offering protection against enemy fire.

If you are getting swarmed by Automatons or need to take over one of their bases, use the offensive Stratagems listed above: Eagle Cluster Bomb, Orbital 380MM HE Barrage, or the Orbital Walking Barrage.

Best Solo Loadout in Helldivers 2

For those who don't like playing with other people or just want to test their solo skills, this is the setup we recommend:

The weapon loadout doesn't change much. You can experiment with other primary weapons, but I am confident that in the end, you will return to the SG-225G Breaker, which is currently the best weapon in the game, in my opinion.

For Body Armor, when playing solo, you will need to be constantly on the move to avoid getting swarmed. Here, Light Armors outshine the competition with the highest movement speed stats. Alternatively, you can opt for armor with the Med-Kit passive, which provides extra stims that can be useful if you're getting overrun.

As for the Stratagems, the Autocannon and the Railgun will be the best support weapons for taking down heavily armored or tough enemies from both factions. Choose the Mortar Sentry for the Terminids and the Gatling one for the Automatons. The various 'Guard Dogs' will be incredibly useful when playing solo, providing protection against smaller enemies while you deal with a bigger threat. For the Eagles, opt for the Cluster Bomb against the Robots and the Napalm Strike against the Terminids. Use the different orbital strikes we've listed above against the largest enemies or when you need to take over an enemy base.
