Lan Yan is a 4-star Anemo Catalyst user. She is the first Anemo shielder, and that is about everything that she does. Her kit relies mostly on applying her shield, and truthfully her shield is not that great. It is not bad, but it is far from Zhongli-level. Having said that, if you manage to get her C2, Lan Yan’s shield becomes an amazing tool that can be refreshed every 2 seconds just by spamming Normal Attacks. This makes Lan Yan an accessible shielder for teams that have the main DPS spamming Normal Attack a lot, such as Arlecchino for example. However, this is only possible if you manage to get Lan Yan at C2. At C0 she’s honestly not that great, and there are definitely better alternatives, be that for Anemo, or Shielders.
In the end, Lan Yan is a decent character, but nothing game-breaking. She has a decent shield, which becomes amazing at C2, but apart from it, her kit seems a bit lacking, as her damage potential is just not there. As such in this guide, we’ll focus on a build for her that will boost Lan Yan’s shield as much as possible.

Lan Yan Best Weapons
When it comes to weapons that can best boost Lan Yan’s shield we can’t help but talk about the [Memory of Dust]. This is a great catalyst for Lan Yan as not only does it boost her ATK%, but also gives her a flat-out 20% shield strength, which is just great. Having said that, not many people are going to have the [Memory of Dust] so if you are one of them, you can pick one of the other two choices we have shown below.
Rank | W-Engine | Effect |
1 | ![]() Memory of Dust |
Increases Shield Strength by 20%. Scoring hits on opponents increases ATK by 4% for 8s. Max 5 stacks. Can only occur once every 0.3s. While protected by a shield, this ATK increase effect is increased by 100%. |
2 | ![]() Skyward Atlas |
Increases Elemental DMG Bonus by 12%. Normal Attack hits have a 50% chance to earn the favor of the clouds, which actively seek out nearby opponents to attack for 15s, dealing 160% ATK DMG. Can only occur once every 30s. |

3 | ![]() Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers |
When switching characters, the new character taking the field has their ATK increased by 24% for 10s. This effect can only occur once every 20s. |

Lan Yan Best Artifacts
Being an Anemo character, the best set that you can use on Lan Yan will be the [Viridescent Venerer]. This is the go-to set for any Anemo support, and Lan Yan is no different. While her swirling capabilities are far from the likes of Kazuha’s or any other Anemo unit, Lan Yan is still able to use the Viridescent Venerer to a satisfactory degree.
Rank | Artifact | Effect |

2-Piece: Anemo DMG Bonus +15% 4-Piece: Increases Swirl DMG by 60%. Decreases opponent's Elemental RES to the element infused in the Swirl by 40% for 10s. |

Lan Yan Skill Priority
Lastly, for Lan Yan’s skills, you first want to focus on her Elemental Skill, as that is the part of her kit responsible for her shield. After, you want to level her Elemental Burst, with her Normal Attacks coming in last.

Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst > Normal Attack |
