One of the main highlights of Helldivers 2 is how the global campaign works, with each mission contributing towards the liberation of different planets and systems. Completing missions and seeing how your success is actively helping repel the galaxy from the impending invasions adds so much depth to the game, with many of the community channels engaging in role-playing as hardened soldiers and veterans of the war.
With the two enemy factions, the Terminids and Automatons, providing players with entirely different experiences, we start to wonder if a third faction is going to show up in the coming weeks. With the Galactic map having a lot of empty space to the south, let's take a look at how the war might change in the future of Helldivers 2.

Will There Be A Third Faction in Helldivers 2?
If we take a look at the Galactic map of Helldivers 2, we can see that the south region of the world is surprisingly empty. It doesn't look like the Terminids or Automatons are going to start rapidly expanding to the south, and the map seems to be separated into 3 distinct zones. With Helldivers 2 adopting the live-service model, we fully expect new factions to be part of the future content cycle of the game.
We don't believe a third faction in Helldivers 2 is currently in the game, but it's possible that it is being developed and could be added in a future content update. The previous installment of the series did have a third faction, called the Illuminate, which were very similar to the Protoss faction in Starcraft.

They are a race that has access to advanced technology, allowing them to use energy shields, ranged weaponry, as well as different mental abilities like hypnosis and teleportation. Whether or not Helldivers 2 is going to bring back this race is unknown, but they might put a twist on the concept.
That is everything you need to know about the potential third enemy faction in Helldivers 2. While we don't believe that we are going to be getting a new enemy to fight in the coming months, it's surely something that Arrowhead Game Studios is already working on, with many hints to support it. What kind of enemies are waiting for us in the south is currently unknown, but whenever new information surfaces, we will be sure to keep you updated!
