Monster Hunter Wilds will be the newest addition to the Monster Hunter franchise, and given that the game will feature a ton of new content and monsters for players to fight against, it is only natural that fans of the series will wonder whether CAPCOM has decided to switch things up and make the game open world.

Is Monster Hunter Wilds Open World
Monster Hunter Wilds is not an open world game. While the maps and areas in Monster Hunter Wilds are bigger when compared to those in Monster Hunter World, the game is still an instanced-based game. CAPCOM has decided to not reinvent the wheel and go with something they are sure will work. However, while it may not be an open world game, the newly added maps in Monster Hunter Wilds are huge. In addition, all of the maps feature a seamless experience as you won’t have to go through loading screens and will be able to explore at will. This, combined with the newly added mount system, will surely give the impression that the game is open world.

Different Locales

While the game will not feature an open world, it will introduce a set of locales that each represent different environmental feels, have different weather, and even have environmental effects that will drastically change how each of the locales feels. Currently, there are three known locales for Monster Hunter Wilds, but we can likely expect to see more at launch, or even expect to see more added as DLCs, similar to how Iceborn expanded the world of Monster Hunter World. The currently known locales are:
- Windward Plains
- Scarlet Forest
- Oilwell Basin
Each of these will offer a unique experience, so make sure to go wild with exploration as you make your way through and get familiar with these new locales!
