The fan-favorite MCU actor Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the big screen, but not in the way we are used to seeing him. For more than a decade, Downey Jr. has taken on the role of Anthony Stark and arguably became the face of the Marvel franchise. Thanks to his sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame, Thanos was defeated, and the rest of the heroes remained safe.
However, it seems that the producers cannot let go of Downey Jr. and his spectacular acting skills. Check out what the Marvel announcement from San Diego Comic-Con revealed about his future in the MCU.

Who is Doctor Doom?
Doctor Doom is probably the most well-known villain from the Marvel comics. He was first introduced in 1962 in The Fantastic Four comic but later became an antagonist in the Spider-Man and Avengers franchises. Originally, his name was Victor Von Doom, a scientist from Latveria (a fictional country in Europe). After an incident in which a machine he created exploded, he was heavily injured. This led to him wearing a mask and a suit all the time.
He later becomes a control maniac who desires nothing but world domination. Nonetheless, he is a very complicated and interesting supervillain who uses time-traveling to his advantage.

San Diego Comic-Con Announcement: Robert Downey Jr.'s Come Back
We got some pretty exciting news for the MCU at the recent San Diego Comic-Con. First, Kevin Feige announced that the Russo Brothers will be directing Avengers 5 and 6. The title of Avengers 5 has also been changed to Avengers: Doomsday. As you can guess, Doctor Doom will be joining the MCU, and the Russo brothers said that there is only one actor suitable for that role, calling him "the greatest actor in the world." Right after they said that a group of people wearing Doctor Doom's mask came out, and one of them stepped in front of the rest to reveal himself as Robert Downey Jr. With that the Russo Brothers confirmed the actor they were talking about is in fact our favorite Iron Man actor. Fans got super excited by his reveal and the fact that the iconic actor will be returning to the universe.
A lot of questions remain, such as whether Doctor Doom will be a Tony Stark variant or there won't be any relation to Iron Man. However, the actor successfully made the audience even more hyped for his upcoming participation in the movie by saying, “New mask, same task. What can I tell you? I like playing complicated characters.”
Avengers: Doomsday is planned for May 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars should come out sometime in 2027. Stay tuned for further updates and check our website for more interesting content for your favorite shows and movies!
