Should I Play Kingdom Come: Deliverance Before Starting the Sequel?

Warhorse Studios has announced that the second Kingdom Come: Deliverance is on its way and we don’t have long to wait. Surprising multiple gamers, the RPG is due to come out this year. There will be no long wait that can last a few years but Warhorse has promised a 2024 release date.

The first Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a smaller project that didn’t capture as much hype as it should have because it came from a small indie gaming developer that nobody had heard of. It managed to sell over 6 million copies despite getting the reputation that Kingdom Come: Deliverance was so difficult you couldn’t complete it.

Now the sequel is on the way, many gamers are asking if they need to play the first installment to make sense of the story. Considering it is now common knowledge that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be a direct continuation of Henry’s story, some people worry they will not understand the game when they start the sequel.

Should You Play the First Kingdom Come: Deliverance Before the Second?

While we recommend playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance before starting the sequel, it is not necessary. Warhorse Studios said that they have taken steps to make sure that all newcomers will be able to play without feeling lost. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will work as a standalone experience.

There will be some familiar faces appearing in the second installment but we expect the developers to explain their roles in Henry’s life. We know that Hans will be joining you and will most likely be with you at the beginning of the story and we are eager to see who else will pop up.

Theresa has a large group of fans wanting her to return in the sequel because she played such a huge role in the DLC, A Woman’s Lot, and the beginning of Kingdom Come: Deliverance. If you have the opportunity, then definitely give the first game a go if you want to know all the characters that might reappear.

The good news for anyone who hasn’t got the opportunity or doesn’t want to play the first game is that Warhorse assures us you don't need to. Henry will be traveling to a new location and starting to grow as a person. We will be saying goodbye to Henry the boy and welcoming the man.
