Sword of Convallaria is one of the gacha games that I picked up recently, and it is the game that has been eating away at most, if not all, of my free time during the past week. The game’s story, characters, and just how F2P-friendly it is for a gacha game have certainly opened my eyes to how amazing gacha games can be if you just step away from the big three and focus on enjoying what else there is on the market. With some experience under my belt in Sword of Convallaria, I feel like I’m finally ready to recommend the game for what it has to offer, and I’ve come to tell you that it is definitely worth it to start playing it right now, in May of 2025.

Why start now?

Sword of Convallaria’s global release is still young. With a release date of August 1, 2024, the game is but a few months shy of its first anniversary in the West, which means that you can still get in quite early and actually get strong enough to participate in all of the events that will be available during the first anniversary this year. Nowadays, most popular gacha games have been running for more than 3-4 years, and sometimes it can feel daunting to start such a game. On the other hand, Sword of Convallaria is still pretty young in the West, and while you might have missed some months of farming and getting some units, you can easily catch up in no time at all!

Why should I start?
Well, that’s a good question. For one, the story of Sword of Convallaria is amazing. It is stretched out into hours upon hours of fun, and it has a ton of alternative endings you can explore, which makes it a great time sink for any player who loves to go deep into the story. Apart from this, there is the unique combat experience similar to games like Fire Emblem and FF Tactics. And lastly, the thing that got me to start was how F2P-friendly the game is. In short, you need 180 pulls to guarantee the premium unit on the banner. While this might originally seem high, the chance for Legendary units in this game is set to 2%, which is decent, and you get close to 80 pulls each month, being free-to-play. However, that is not all. The best part of SoC is that you only need to pull each character once! While units in this game have stars, which are similar to constellations in Genshin Impact, you can unlock these stars by playing the game daily and completing a certain stage that allows you to farm for the character you want. So, technically, you can max out any unit you want as long as you get them once, which completely removes the incentive to pull for constellations.

Is the game worth it?

I truly do feel like Sword of Convallaria is worth your time as of right now. The game has felt like a breath of fresh air ever since I first started it, and I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with it. The only negative experience I’ve had is that I want to give them my money, but the shop packs just don’t seem worth it, but it won’t be a problem if you’re going in with the intention of being F2P. With that said, now is a good time to start the game, as the anniversary is just shy of 2 months away, and if you’ve played other gacha games, you should know that anniversaries are the best time to start any gacha.
