Yonezawa is best known as the author of the novel "Hyouka," which also inspired a TV anime adaptation in 2012. For the "Shoushimin" anime, Mamoru Kanbe, director of "The Promised Neverland," will helm the project at Studio Lapin Track. Toshiya Oono handles series composition while Atsushi Saitou designs the characters. Takahiro Obata provides music composition.

Hina Youmiya and Shuuichirou Umeda lead the cast as the voices of Kosanai and Kobato respectively. Both expressed excitement over portraying the unique relationship and adventures of the two characters.

Comment from Shuuichirou Umeda (Tsunegoro Kobato):

"Nice to meet you! My name is Shuichiro Umeda! I will play Tsunegoro Kobato.
I started reading the original novel after the audition, and I enjoyed reading it quickly as I was carried away by Kobato's light and airy storytelling that is full of her personality.
I wonder how the relationship with Kosanai-san and the atmosphere will be portrayed in the anime! I'm really looking forward to it. Of course, I also want to hear Kobato's decisive line! I will do my best to play this role so that both those who have read the original work and those who are introduced to the "Little Citizen Series" through the anime will enjoy it. Someday, I'll grab the star of a small citizen. Thank you very much!"

Comment from Hina Hitsujimiya (Yuki Kosanai):

"I never thought that the day would come when I would see Kobato, Kosanai, and the others moving and talking. I am happy that their story, which gradually emerges from the 'mysteries of everyday life'', has now been given a different form. The pictures, voices, music, and all the elements of the animation work are sure to add new charm to this series. I'm looking forward to that moment myself."
