TRIBE NINE, the newest gacha game to be released to the market. A BRUTAL ARPG set in a world by Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator of the Danganronpa franchise, and a prominent game designer. The game offers fun and engaging 3D combat, 2.5D exploration, and most of all, an amazing story that definitely lives up to Kodaka’s name. However, that’s where it stops. As a single-player game, TRIBE NINE does well. As a gacha, however, that’s where the problems start.

Why Are Fans Furious?

The people who’ve closely been following TRIBE NINE were in an uproar when the game officially launched today, February 20, 2024. This was because following the official launch of the game, all of the players discovered that almost all of the free-to-play premium currency had been removed from the game. No gems from open-world chests, no gems from dailies, no gems from here, no gems from there. In short, the F2P gem income was abysmal. Couple this with the predatory gacha system, which has one of the worst rates in recent releases, and you have yourselves a disaster. The main issues came from the fact that this was not the case during the game’s beta releases.

TRIBE NINE’s Beta State

During the beta version of the game, TRIBE NINE received a lot of praise both from content creators and fans alike. Almost everyone enjoyed the combat, and the exploration was a great touch thanks to its 2.5D art style. However, the most important thing was that the pull income was decent. Players could get up to 100+ pulls just by playing through the story and doing other miscellaneous tasks. This would be considered great, even somewhat generous when compared to other gacha games. However, given that this was not the case at launch, it led a ton of players to deem TRIBE NINE as a [bait and switch].

The Future of TRIBE NINE

As of right now, TRIBE NINE sits at an awful place. For PC, it is only available through Steam, and its reviews there sit at [Mostly Negative], completely butchering its hopes of getting on the main page. From the review, one can see that the players are completely dissatisfied with the way that Akatsuki Games has handled this release. If things remain the way they are now, the game will likely struggle to see future updates, and we will likely hear news about it shutting down in the near future. The only things keeping the game stable right now are its interesting story and single-player experience, but given that this is a gacha game with currently no endgame content, players are bound to grow tired. If Akatsuki Games decides to turn back their decision to remove all of the F2P currency and actually try to give what they’ve already shown, then we might have a decent game on our hands. Until then, however, we do not advise spending any money on the game. If you’d like to play it, do so for the story.
