Wuthering Waves: Ultimate Teambuilding Guide

Wuthering Waves, similarly to other games in the genre, requires a good understanding of how characters work in order to be able to build good teams. In this guide, we'll show you the best ways to build teams.

Each team in Wuthering Waves consists of 3 characters. Generally, these teams will consist of 1 or 2 damage dealers plus 1 or 2 support characters. Keep in mind that sometimes specific units might just be great when used solo. When making a team, you’ll have to consider the way units synergize.

Of course, before we start explaining, we’d like to mention that you should always play the characters you like first and then consider trying out the "meta.”

Echo Advice

It’s fine to level up some purple Echoes in the early game of Wuthering Waves so they can help you progress. If you happen to get some good stats on them, you can use them all the way until you find gold Echoes to replace them with.

Purple Tuners are used exclusively for purple Echoes, so don’t be afraid to spend them. That being said, you shouldn’t go too crazy on leveling up purple Echoes, as you’ll need the resources for the gold Echoes. If you happen to level a lot of purple Echoes later on, you can still use them as fodder for the gold Echoes at 80% efficiency.

Wuthering Waves: Early Game

In the early game of Wuthering Waves, you shouldn’t stress too much about who to level, as getting a character to level 20 is just 3% of the resources you’ll need. You can level up multiple characters to try them out and see who fits you best.

Try to avoid spreading your resources too thin if you want to complete the hardest content in the game as soon as possible.

Once you get into the mid game of Wuthering Waves, you should consider focusing on just a few characters you like the most. It would be best if you started thinking about it somewhere around when you get your first 5-star character.

Keep in mind that you will need 3 teams for Tower of Adversity, which means you’ll need to build at least 3 DPS characters, so it will be hard to “waste” resources. It’s recommended that, in the beginning, you focus on one or two DPS characters together with the two support characters.

The community still hasn’t gathered enough data for the endgame so we’ll avoid talking about it this time around.

Wuthering Waves: Example Teambuilding

In Wuthering Waves, Resonators that have buffing capabilities can be separated into 2 groups: direct and indirect buffers. Direct buffers are characters that can buff the unit that comes after them and indirect buffers are buffers that can buff the entire team.

Currently, the only indirect buffer in Wuthering Waves is Verina. This is also where the Echo set, Rejuvenating Glow comes in as it provides an ATK% boost for the entire team when the Resonator equipped with it uses their Outro Skill.

Now that we know all the basics, let us build an example team. First, you’ll want to take the Resonator you like the most or enjoy playing with. For this example, we’ll take Yinlin. Now that we know who our main character will be, we’d need some Resonators that synergize with them.

In Yinlin’s case, that would be Calcharo, because Yinlin has great off-field damage capabilities and provides a direct electro-damage buff with her Outro Skill. A great support for this team would be either Verina or Baizhi as those are the only two currently available.

Yang Yang can be a good pick if you lack AoE damage but in this case, thanks to Yinlin, we have enough. Last but not least you can consider Mortefi as he provides a boost to heavy attacks, but Yinlin will not be using many heavy attacks, so he won’t be needed either.

When going into a fight, you’ll want to start with the indirect buffer first as they provide longer buffs for the whole team. Then, switch to the direct buffer so you can give their buff to the DPS character. Last but not least, you switch to your main DPS for a burst window with all the buffs stacked on them.

This is a basic example of how you should go about building your teams. Keep in mind that the game is very reactive, so unlike Genshin Impact, you’ll have to switch your gameplay up on the go, and set rotations won’t always work.
