Hugo is the newest S-Rank Agent to join the Zenless Zone Zero roster. He is an Ice Attack unit, and if you haven’t already grown tired of them, then you better steel yourselves, as HoYo seems to love their Ice DPS Agents. Jokes aside, Hugo plays in a completely different way from Ellen and Miyabi while not being weaker in any way. Below, you can find more info on him, as well as how to properly build him, so let’s get started!

Hugo is the newest Ice DPS unit on the block, and he’s a fun character to use. He introduces a new mechanic to the game known as Totalize. Totalize allows for some ridiculously high numbers (and we do mean that), with some of his hits going over 4 million, and maybe even 10+ million if you open up your wallets for his Mindscape 6.
The Totalize mechanic works by consuming an enemy’s Stun Gauge and converting it into damage. This leads to some very high numbers, but it also removes the Stun status from the enemy. Due to this, Hugo is best paired with two stun units who can quickly stun the enemy so that Hugo can proc his Totalizes. Now then, let’s see how we can build Hugo to get the most out of his Totalize hits!

Hugo Best W-Engine
Rank | W-Engine | Effect |
1 | ![]() Myriad Eclipse |
Increases CRIT DMG by 45%. When using an EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate to deal Ice DMG, the equipper gains the Absolute Zero Death Sentence effect for 3s. While Absolute Zero Death Sentence is active, the character ignores 25% of the enemy's DEF when landing a hit. |
2 | ![]() Deep Sea Visitor |
Increases Ice DMG by 25%. Upon hitting an enemy with a Basic Attack, the equipper`s CRIT Rate increases by 10% for 8s. When dealing Ice DMG with a Dash Attack, the equipper`s CRIT Rate increases by an additional 10% for 15s. The duration of each effect is calculated separately. |

3 | ![]() Street Superstar |
Whenever a squad member launches a Chain Attack, the equipper gains 1 Charge stack, stacking up to 3 times. Upon activating their own Ultimate, the equipper consumes all Charge stacks, and each stack increases the skill's DMG by 15%. |
There is no doubt that Hugo’s best W-Engine is his signature, the Myriad Eclipse. It is certainly better than going for his M1 and offers close to a 30% DMG boost when compared to his F2P alternative. Luckily, his F2P is truly free-to-play, as it is one of the craftable W-Engines, so even if you don’t have the pulls for Hugo’s signature, you can still do decent damage with his cheap option.

When it comes to Drive Discs, you might be set if you’ve been playing for some time, as Hugo’s 4-piece set just happens to be Hormone Punk, one of the original Drive Discs, and a set of which you should have quite a few pieces.

Core > Chain > Special Attack > Basic Attack > Assist > Dodge |
Finally, for Hugo’s skills, you first want to focus on his Core, followed by his Chain, EX Special, Basic Attack, and then what’s left. All of Hugo’s damage comes from his Totalize mechanic, so leveling your Core should be your number one priority!
