Obsidian Entertainment's single-player fantasy action role-playing game is finally available to players to try out, and it certainly delivers on many aspects. Although there are only three classes in Avowed, you should not underestimate the amount of depth built into each one, and given the options to customize your experience, there is certainly a lot to master.

With that in mind, we will go over all of the classes in Avowed, their strengths, kits and overall gameplay features so you can have an easier time deciding how to play the game.

Avowed: Fighter Class

Avowed Fighter

If you love to get right into the action and face your enemies head-on, the Fighter will be your best bet. Not only do you deal a very high amount of damage with heavy melee weapons like Axes, Maces and other Two-Handed options, but you can also utilize a Shield to block incoming attacks.

  • Attacking while holding Block slams your shield forward to Stun, push back, and interrupt enemies.

Avowed: Ranger Class

If you prefer to fight from a distance, then the Ranger will be your cup of tea, offering great ranged damage, as well as some useful melee combat options. Stealth, cunning and strategy are the main tenets of the Ranger as you will perform best in small skirmishes, rather large fights. Wielding One-Handed and Two-Handed Ranged Weapons, along with Light and Finesse options, you prioritize speed over brute force.

Avowed: Wizard Class

Wizard are very different in terms of their combat preferences and mechanics. While you still would like to keep your distance, you're certainly no master of ambushes, but rather face enemies head-on with a myriad of spells. Utilizing Wands and Grimoires, Wizards have to quickly adapt to different encounters and use their limited resource pool to correctly identify weaknesses and cast appropriate abilities to gain the upper hand.

You also have several Starting Background options to choose from, so we recommend going for the Court Sorcerer one to further increase your Perception, and Intellect so you can improve your damage and range.
