A Scholarly Pursuit is only available in the Unmoored World. You will have to achieve the true ending in Dragon’s Dogma 2 to start this quest. When you wake up after your fight with the dragon, you must learn what is wrong with the world you thought you had saved. The seas have drained away and only destruction remains.

Your first aim should be to reunite with your main Pawn but soon after you are going to have to figure out how you can help all the civilians of Battahl and Vermund. A few missions are awaiting you in this new world and as the Arisen, people will be looking at you to help.

You will at one point start the Halls of the First Dawn quest which will lead you all over the world, looking to evacuate the large settlements to the Seafloor Shrine. Before you see the incoming destruction wipe Vermund and Battahl off the map, you will have to deal with the Scholarly Pursuit quest and help Lord Phaesus figure out what is happening in Dragon's Dogma 2.

How to Start Scholarly Pursuit in Dragon’s Dogma 2

When you arrive in Bakbattahl in Dragon's Dogma 2, you might notice a large beam of red light hitting the middle of the city. Interacting with it will summon a statue of a dragon. This will begin the Scholarly Pursuit quest. Lord Phaesus will arrive out of nowhere, wanting to examine the relic but a magic barrier will block his path.

A group of blighted enemies will appear and attack you. These enemies are weak and offer no XP. Make quick work of them so you can progress along the Scholarly Pursuit quest. Phaesus will run off, looking to get around the barrier. Follow him as he leads you through the city and defend him from the enemies that keep appearing.

Large rocks will fall from the sky when you reach the dye fields. Watch for the indicators on the ground letting you know where they will land. One hit can be fatal. Phaesus will lead you through the Forbidden Magick Research Lab and into the palace.

Now you have avoided the magical wall protecting the dragon statue, you have a clear path. The only thing between you and the relic is a mass of blighted enemies. You will need to be careful here as they can easily surround and mob you. Take your time and let your Pawns take some of the pressure while you deal with the enemies one by one.

When you have dealt with your opponents, you can destroy the dragon statue, freeing the people of Bakbattahl from the nightmare. If you choose to not break the relic and try to take it to Phaesus's lab, you will trip and drop the statue after a few steps.

There is no way to spare the dragon statue from destruction so you might as well just break it voluntarily. Phaesus will not be happy that it is destroyed but will soon get over himself when he realizes there is no choice. This will end the Scholarly Pursuit quest.

You will receive 20,000 XP, 20,000 gold, and 35 Wyrmslife Crystals for your trouble. Take a moment to celebrate your victory and get started on saving people from the incoming destruction. The world is falling apart and needs the Arisen. Check out our guides to the Off the Pilfered Path, Shadowed Prayers, and A Case of Sculptor's Block quests.
